ANTI-AGING + SUN PROTECTION

To all the sun gods and goddesses, tanning bed goers, “I don’t need to wear sunscreen” thinkers, believe us when we say PROTECTING YOUR SKIN FROM THE SUN IS IMPORTANT.

Why should you take our word for it?

As a Colorado native, our founder, Pamela Hill, is an A+ sun lover, a sunscreen wearer and a melanoma survivor. Pamela’s battle with melanoma has opened her eyes to a different side of skin care, one that puts even more emphasis on preventative aging measures, as well as taking extra precautions to care for your skin the RIGHT way, and especially to care for your skin in the sun.

So why is daily sunscreen use important?

Daily sun protection is key for keeping the appearance of wrinkles and other eye area concerns at bay. When used as directed with other sun protection measures, it decreases the risk of skin cancer.

When the sun burns your skin, it damages the DNA of your skin cells. This unrepaired DNA damage to your skin cells triggers mutations that can lead to the rapid multiplication and the formation of malignant tumors. Unfortunately, one blistering sunburn is known to double your chances of developing skin cancer later in life, so giving sunscreen a second thought before spending all day outside is definitely a good idea.

Aside from protecting from harmful UVA/UVB rays and helping to lower your risk of skin cancer, sunscreen also helps to prevent premature aging and blotchiness. It works to maintain and enhance the health of your skin by protecting the skin’s proteins that make it appear youthful and vibrant: elastin, collagen and keratin.

Although convenient, we believe a moisturizer that includes SPF has a difficult time working hard in both areas, which is why we’ve carefully formulated a sunscreen to conclude your daily morning routine. Pamela Metamorphosis SPF 30 is a lightweight, streak-free sunscreen that goes on as smooth as a moisturizer.

Ingredients are key

In our carefully crafted formulation, we wanted to be sure our ingredients worked well with each other and worked well on our skin. In our sunscreen you’ll find:

  • Vitamin E: a powerhouse antioxidant that works to block free radicals from the body (the sun being one of them), which play a large part in the aging process. It helps reduce wrinkles and keep the skin more youthful-looking.
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): protects the skin from the heat. Used in a sunscreen formulation is protects the skin from infrared heat from the sun. It helps to visibly improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, and dullness…why wouldn’t you wear your sunscreen?
  • Hyaluronic acid: is a potent antioxidant, providing defense against free radicals (in this case, the sun). This ingredient is known for its anti-aging properties. Hyaluronic Acid contained in our sunscreen formulation causes the development of a protective barrier, locking in moisture and helping to give the skin a more youthful appearance.
  • Active ingredients: Zinc Oxide at 5% and Octinoxate at 7.5%

TESTED IN THE HAWAIIAN SUN
Our sunscreen has been well travelled with and very loved by our customers. Whether it’s been used everyday in the hot Hawaiian sun, a mile above seal level in Colorado, or in the hot, arid climates of the middle east, our sunscreen provides maximum protection with a formulation that won’t leave you sticky, streaky, or greasy.

How to apply:

Generously apply sunscreen to all exposed skin — even on cloudy days — year-round:

  1. Use a sunscreen that provides broad spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays and has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30
  2. 15 minutes before sun exposure – apply enough sunscreen to cover your exposed areas – then reapply every 1.5-2 hours and after swimming or sweating
  3. Remember, just because you’re wearing sunscreen, doesn’t mean you can spend unlimited time in the sun.

Other things you can do to protect your skin from the sun:

  1. Wear protective clothing/accessories: a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses or long sleeved shirt
  2. Seek shade when possible: the sun’s rays are the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  3. Use extra caution near reflective environments: water, snow and sand reflect and magnify the damaging rays of the sun, increasing your chance of sunburn.
  4. Do not burn: Severe sunburns, especially during childhood, increase your risk of developing melanoma and other skin cancer. Avoid intentional tanning and indoor tanning beds.
  5. Get plenty of vitamin D: one of the benefits of the sun is Vitamin D. Often, wearing sunscreen makes it hard to absorb that Vitamin D which is why we recommend other safe options like supplements or a healthy diet to replace Vitamin D in your diet.
  6. Be aware of the ingredients in your skin care products and medications: some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can increase your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.

Do routine skin checks, know your face, know your body and ask a health care provider (medical aesthetician, dermatologist, physician) to help you monitor the changes of your skin.

Pamela’s Tip: Protect your skin – your biggest organ! Apply enough sunscreen to cover all exposed areas of the sun and seek other preventative measures as needed. Avoid burning at all costs. Sunscreen is your first defense. Don’t skip it!
