Skin Detox: Springtime Addition

 

Spring is finally here! The birds are chirping, flowers are starting to bloom, and the new Bachelorette was just announced. It’s a time for change. Just like how America wants to detox the memory of Arie’s recent proposal from it’s mind, it’s a great time to rid our skin of some of the impurities it’s accumulated through the winter.

To keep it simple, the word detox is defined as a period of time in which one rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances.

So let’s talk about the word “detox.” You might have heard of detoxing when it comes to your diet. It has been a trending topic in the wellness community for quite some time. We’ve found the subject of detoxing has both positive and negative connotations. To keep it simple, the word detox is defined as a period of time in which one rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances.

During the winter time we deal with so much that can negatively impact our skin. Think about all the cold air, pollution, or just the general stress that the holidays bring (in-laws or not!) . All of this can leave our skin looking dull, uneven, or broken out. That’s why it’s so important to start fresh each spring with a mini spring detox.

Drink Water
We know we’re not sharing earth shattering news here. You’ve probably been told to drink water time and time again. Honestly, if you haven’t already, you should probably start listening. Drinking water is the first step when it comes to helping your body remove toxins or waste. If you’ve struggled recently with breakouts in particular, increasing your water intake is a simple solution that has visible benefits.

Probiotics
This is probably another magic word you’ve heard thrown around recently. Probiotics are live bacteria that help your digestive system. When your digestive system is happy, your skin is happy. You know that crazy for Kombucha friend you have? Yeah, they might not be so crazy after all. If you are wanting the benefits of a detox without a lot of hassle, probiotics are the way to go.

Eat (And Drink) Clean
We’re not in the position to tell you what you should or should not put into your body. We love pizza, wine, and chocolate just as much as the next girl. We do, however, want to help you get that glowing skin you’ve always wanted. That means sometimes we have to take a look at what we are eating or drinking that could negatively affect our skin. For a quick detox, we recommend avoiding processed sugar, cheese, or even gluten if you are prone to breaking out. Alcohol, especially drinks high in sugar, are also something to look out for.

Exfoliate
Your skin is the protective layer to the outside world. We often forget that it is your body’s largest organ. Over time dead skin cells develop on the outer layer of the epidermis, leaving you looking tired and dull. One of the easiest way to combat this is through exfoliating. By removing dry or dead skin cells from the skin, a fresh canvas is revealed. You can exfoliate the skin by using masks or a light scrub. We would never recommend anything too harsh for your face, however.
